Most people seem to more naturally accept the title of consumer than they do the title of maker. A lot of our identity is based on what we buy and pay for. Buying seems to have become our main creative outlet. Rather than make something we buy it. Why not take the chance today and accept the title of artist. Try to make something with your own hands, write a poem, hum your own tune, build something with scraps of wood. Block the world out for a few minutes and immerse yourself in making. It may be uncomfortable at first but with a little determination you may surprise yourself. You might even be proud of what you make. I don't say this to glorify the act of making as something better than anything else we do, just to acknowledge that it's largely neglected although it's an important part of our humanity.
